Lehigh Park Apartments I

2622 N. Lawrence Street, Philadelphia, PA 19133

Lehigh Park I, formerly called the Huntingdon-Bromley Building, was built in 1855 and is in the national Registry for Historic Sites. This mid-rise building was part of the St. Christopher’s Children’s Hospital campus in the Fairhill Neighborhood until its relocation in 1989 to a more modern facility at Front Street and Erie Avenue. After the hospital’s relocation, these buildings were converted into multifamily housing for low-income families.

In 2001 HACE purchased Lehigh Park I and II buildings in keeping with the organization’s mission for preserving affordable rental housing in HACE’s service area and to support the continued revitalization of the Fairhill Neighborhood.

This 22,103 square foot mid-rise, four story brick construction building offers twenty-seven apartments featuring an open floor plan with living room and eat-in kitchen. The management offices and community room are located in the adjacent property—Lehigh Park II Apartments. Fairhill Square Park is directly across the street (on the East side of the 2600 block of North Lawrence Street) providing open green space and a playground equipment for families of LPI and LPII.

These apartments were rehabilitated with support from the Pennsylvania Housing Finance Agency 4% Low-income Housing Tax Credit Program, Division of Housing and Community Development and financing from Citi. Rental subsidies are being provided by the Philadelphia Housing Agency’s Rental Demonstration Program.
